The Australian Shepherd
Early European and Australian settlers took many of their herding dogs with them as they emigrated to the eastern United States in the 19th century, those dogs got mixed up,and because they called their sheep,”Australian Shep”, did they call those mixed up dogs “Australian Shepherd”
The Aussie is a dog of medium size and bone, A little bit longer than tall, They have strong herding and guardian instincts It is also a very active dog that needs a great deal of exercise, They are easy to train and eager to please.
Aussies have been used as seeing-eye dogs, as utility dog to the physically handicapped, hearing aid dogs, police and narcotics dogs aswel as search and rescue dogs. In the northern areas they have also been used as sled dog.
Many go with their masters as volunteers to children`s homes and nursing homes to do therapywork. The Australian Shepherd is a highly versatile dog.
Although many Aussies are friendly to everyone,the Australian Shepherd as a breed tends to be somewhat reserved and cautious around strangers.Aussies are often quit protective of their family and property
Aussies are like five-year olds.The big difference ,other then the hair, is that they will eternally love you, which is why you should do all you can to make them happy too.
They want to do what you do, they want to be around and help were they can.
